Business Support for the Eastern Region

In response to the current economic climate, the East of England Development Agency held a business summit at the end of last year. The event highlighted the range of support that is available to all businesses in our region. The following is the range of support that is available:

EEDA

The EEDA funds a number of organisations and programmes that deliver business support within the region, including:

• The Business Map - to help firms find their way through the publicly-funded business support available in the region;
• Enterprising Women - to help women start or grow a business;
• Response to Redundancy - through and beyond 2010, their will be advice, guidance and re-training opportunities available;
• A free, independent and impartial assessment of skills and training requirements from Train to Gain;
• Finance for Innovation - a package of targeted financial support for innovative business ideas.

Business Link East

Business Link East is the gateway to the full range of public-funded support available in the East of England. BLE have also introduced a range of specific services to help businesses through the economic slowdown, including:

• A free and confidential 'health-check' which takes stock of where your business is currently and looks at what needs to be done to prepare for the slowdown;
• Free briefings on key subjects like managing money and improving your marketing;
• A free 'recession survival guide'.

Train to Gain

Train to Gain is a government-funded initiative that can help businesses within every industry get the skills and training they need, including:

• A free, independent and impartial assessment of skills and training requirements;
• A tailor-made training package to determine which qualifications employees will most benefit from;
• Information on possible sources of funding for the training.

East of England International and UK Trade & Investment

East of England Internationl and UK Trade & Investment provide the support that businessses need to grow internationally. Both organisations work with overseas-owned companies locating in the region and local businesses exporting their services and products. The services include:

• Investor Development programme - offering coordinated support to overseas-owned businesses located in the region;
• Export advice - flexible and subsidised support to help you make the most of export opportunities.
